Costa Rica’s Best Reef

The country’s best barrier reef starts somewhere around the town of Puerto Viejo and goes as far as the Panamanian border. It’s located at a distance of about 50 miles from the nearest city, so is unspoiled by pollution. This area is more or less unexplored, which is how it still remains pristine and almost untouched by humanity’s destructive hands. Reef Runner Divers has identified near to twenty five scuba diving locations along this reef. The dive locations hold many different attractions. Some of these are shallow coral gardens which are breathtaking in their beauty, deep reefs and vertical walls that can go over almost a hundred and thirty feet in height.

The first dive arranged by Reef Runner Divers usually involves a spell of running on the wall for about a mile, two miles off the shore. These walls have different lengths and heights and all divers can find the size that suits them. Whether the diver is professional or a beginner, the wall can easily be scaled. Usually, the novice divers are asked to stay near the top while the more experienced professionals are allowed to go deeper and explore the waters. Many different species of pelagic ocean creatures can be found in the Caribbean waters here. Some of these creatures include sharks and rays along with a sea turtles.

The Seahorse Wall

There is a ‘Seahorse Wall’ discovered by Reef Runner. The fascinating part about this wall is that all colors of seahorses can be found near it almost all the time. These colors range from yellow, white, brown, and green. Eagle rays, turtles and nurse sharks can easily be spotted in the vicinity.

The second dive planned by the Reef Runner Divers focuses on diving in shallower areas. The dive is located in an area called ‘The Holes’. Years ago an earthquake took place due to which the coral reefs in the area started eroding and forming gaping holes. This is the reason for the name of this dive spot. Still, there is a lot to see and explore in the area like ledges, overhangs and swim-through areas. This spot is specially appreciated by those divers interested in photography, since it has great lighting. The whole area is also has breathtakingly beautiful views.
