Guanacaste province on the northwestern side forms the larger part of the peninsula. It is named after the guanacaste tree which is also the national tree of Costa Rica. Its capital city is Liberia that also houses an international airport. The climate of Guanacaste is generally warm compared to other provinces. It is dry with little rainfall between the months of April and November. The consistent heat is important for agricultural purposes and has also resulted in adaptations of widespread dry tropical forests. During the months of May and October, there is daily rainfall with moderate temperature. The province plays a major role in tourism of Costa Rica. Guanacaste has a sweeping range of stunning beaches, seven national parks and numerous offers of sports activities. Leading beaches like Coco, Tamarindo, amd Samara are quite crowd-pleasing while Carrillo is more family friendly with amazing resorts. For a secluded beach scene, there are a few beaches which are less known but just as sublime. Some of them are Conchal, Manzanillo, Avellana, and Flamingo. Take tours to nature habitats like Rincon de la Vieja, a park in Liberia that covers an enormous range of dry tropical forests, several rivers, volcanic sites, boiling mud spots, hot springs and houses a multifarious fauna and flora. It also has other superb parks like Santa Rosa National Park and Tenorio Volcano national Park.

On the western side is Puntarenas province that covers most of the Pacific coast of the country. It is noted for attractive landscapes of beaches, jungles and mountains. Some of the vogue destinations are Montezuma, Santa Teresa, Jaco, Mal Pais, San Lucas Island and Mountverde. Montezuma is well-known for the cascading Montezuma Waterfall that tumbles into the river in three sets. The waterfall is one of the main reasons of its high popularity. The town has several great accommodations and yoga communities. The national park of Costa Rica, Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve, is nearby. It covers an area of 12.7 km square on terrestrial and 17.9 km square on marine. The park has more than 140 species of flora and is divided between dry and wet forests. There are numerous types of animals like white-face monkeys, deer, howler monkeys, coyote, marine birds, fish, crustaceans and molluscs. Manuel Antonio National Park is a smaller park and is known for its impressive landscapes and biodiversity. For tourism and sports activities, Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, Monteverde and Jaco are highly praised.
