Curu Dive Company is a Costa Rican tour organizer corporation that was established in 2000. It was initiated by a group of people who are descendants of Federico Curú Schutt, the founder of Curu Wildlife Refuge. The company is located in Paquera, a village in the southern Nicoya Peninsula. The tour company specializes in providing low-budget tours to vacationers visiting the wildlife refuge of Curu. The tourism is based on recreational activities related to underwater and terrestrial areas of the nature reserve and Tortuga Island. Curu Dive Company is an Eco-friendly firm that is known to provide satisfactory services to their guests by keeping themselves up to date, taking excellent security measures and focusing on customer care. The company started with a small vision of creating unique trips that would cover a few different destinations. The group bought a boat that had the capacity of carrying ten people. Gradually, the company acquired several boats, minibuses and cars. Since the launch, it has organized numerous trips to marine and terrestrial points, and now both national and international companies that often hire Curu Dive Company for special events, filming and sightseeing recognize it.
Curu Dive Company began to offer scuba diving services in 2003 working under the banner of PADI. The dive sites are at the islets around Tortuga Island. The dive instructors are professionals and have complete knowledge of the aquatic conditions. Tourists can choose one or two dives, which are conducted in different points around the isle. There are specific dive sites where white-tip reef sharks are profuse in all season. Eels, spotted eagle rays, puffer fish, and numerous other animals are also seen all round the year. During December to April, Manta Rays are frequently seen during the dives. The dive groups are kept small so that divers can have a better experience. The water visibility is 10 to 30 meters during the dry season however, in the wet season the visibility is poor. After the dives, tourists are taken to Tortuga Island for snacks and relaxation. The rates of basic open water courses are $450 and of discovery scuba are $100. Diving rates for a day long tour range from $80 to $100.
Terrestrial tours through Curu Dive Company include trips to Curu Wildlife Refuge. The vast nature reserve covers an area of 1500 hectares that involves certain kinds of habitats such as dry forests, wetlands, grasslands, evergreen forests, chubs, plantations and a lot more. The reserve is responsible for maintaining agriculture, breeding of animals, watershed, reforestation of timber, protection of wildlife and Eco-tourism. The reserve has countless trails winding through the forests that are perfect for hiking. During the hike, tourists are likely to encounter howler-monkeys, white-dace monkeys, lizards, white-tailed deer, basilisks, iguanas, resident and migratory birds like Paravoz, the Toledo, the Cara Cara, herons, jays, woodpeckers and plenty of more. Guided hikes of 1 1/2 hour cost $15 per person along with the admission fees to the reservation, which is $10. Unguided hikes are free of cost except for the admission fees for the entrance. In order to experience the nightlife of the reserve, take a guided tour for only $20. For only $10, Horseback-riding tours can be included in any package.
