Cortez Angelfish in the Pacific Ocean are not available year round unlike most other fish in the ocean. The scientific name given to Cortez angelfish is “Pomacanthus zonipectus”. It is called part of the marine angelfish in the ocean. Cortez angelfish are one of the most highly preferred fish to keep in aquariums and fish tanks around the house or office. The Cortez angelfish are thought to be closely related to the butterfly fish also present in the Pacific Ocean. The number of species and sub branches that come out from the family Pomacanthus are numerous and all are thought to be related in one way or another to the Cortez Angelfish. These fish are thought to be perfect for keeping in aquariums because of the following several reasons: Cortez angelfish are completely undemanding. They live healthy lives and are usually holding strong against infections or viral present in their environment. Cortez angelfish can easily exist on a diet of prepared special fish food; they do not need the natural feed of the ocean to keep them alive and well. They have a high tolerance for parasites and diseases in their immediate surroundings which make Cortez angelfish very sturdy fish to keep as pets. Cortez angelfish have astoundingly beautiful bodies in shape as well as vibrant colors that fascinate most onlookers.

In terms of behavior, they are curious and friendly by nature and will not resort to aggression until under extreme provocation. The interesting part about the Cortez angelfish is that their babies have almost the same jewel like colors and bold patterns on their bodies as the adult Cortez angelfish do. This is most unlike other fish in the ocean whose young babies seem to develop colors and patterns only as they grow older; not when they are still young and developing. The baby Cortez angelfish has shimmering, iridescent colors on its body. The colors range from blue to yellow and they seem lightly neon under water. As they grow older, the Cortez angelfish develop a dark brownish gray background and the curved bars along its body change color to yellow and black bars. These are thick and vibrant with color which makes it easy to spot the Cortez angelfish from a distance.

Another type of angelfish (the King) present in the Pacific Ocean is scientifically labeled “Holacanthus passer” and has a close resemblance to the Cortez angelfish. The babies of the King angelfish have bands of light and dark blue in alternating bands. There is also a bright orange band of color behind the eyes of these baby angelfish. These King angelfish babies are about nine inches in length and do not weigh too much. Cortez angelfish are thought to be more sturdy and strong as compared to other angelfish present in the Pacific Ocean and areas near Costa Rica. Cocos Island close to Costa Rica is famous for sightings of Cortez angelfish for which divers and observers come from all over the world. Cortez angelfish generally tend to stay closer towards the coastal side of the Pacific Ocean.
